Recap: Statesboro Blue Devils vs. Ware County Gators
The Statesboro Blue Devils were the 43-41 winner over the Ware County Gators when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Statesboro took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ware County on Saturday. Statesboro has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
Statesboro's loss came despite strong showings from Reya Johnson and Alyssa Staten. Johnson scored 15 points along with two steals, while Staten dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Staten is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played. Shanaria White was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Statesboro's loss dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Ware County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Statesboro will take on Coffee at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Coffee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 150th, while Statesboro is ranked 33rd). As for Ware County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bradwell Institute at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Bradwell Institute sitting on eight straight wins and Ware County on five.
