DeSoto Central has gone a perfect 10-0 against Lake Cormorant recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Jaguars will be playing at home against Lake Cormorant at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lake Cormorant will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: DeSoto Central extended their winning streak to seven on Thursday. The Jaguars never let Oxford get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Jaguars considering their two-run performance the game before.
Makayla Jamison made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Londen Armstrong, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Maddie Hudson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
DeSoto Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oxford only posted a batting average of .000.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Lake Cormorant made sure to put some runs up on the board against Olive Branch on Thursday. Lake Cormorant put the hurt on Olive Branch with a sharp 15-5 win. The victory was some much needed relief for Lake Cormorant as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Like DeSoto Central, Lake Cormorant also got a great game from a two-way player: Aubrey Kirkpatrick. Throwing, Kirkpatrick struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Chatham Hamberlin tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave Kirkpatrick a new career-high. At the plate, Kirkpatrick scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Hamberlin went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Lake Cormorant let Alivia Burns and MaKenzie Nails run wild. Burns scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Nails scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. That's the most hits Burns has posted since back in April of 2024. Raegan Boswood was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
DeSoto Central's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Lake Cormorant, their win bumped their record up to 6-14.
Lake Cormorant's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: DeSoto Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. It's a different story for Lake Cormorant, though, as they've only averaged .355. Will they be able to contain DeSoto Central's hitters?
DeSoto Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Lake Cormorant in their previous meeting back in March, winning 6-2. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do Lake Cormorant have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
