Baseball Recap: Clintonville Comes Up Short

Clintonville dropped their record down to 4-16 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers, falling 9-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Truckers of the 9-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2018.

Linken Korth was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Wittenberg-Birnamwood, the win (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 22-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

On Wittenberg-Birnamwood's side, they got a great performance from Chris Sippl as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Sippl has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zandyr Barke, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Hudson Miller was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Clintonville has already played their next matchup (against New London), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Wittenberg-Birnamwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
