Softball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Marion Wildcats

Mt. Vernon is 2-8 against Marion since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Rams are taking a road trip to take on the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Mt. Vernon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Mt. Vernon is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 20 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Belleville East on Wednesday. They fell 5-0 to the Lancers.

Danicah Tobin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Marion sidestepped Johnston City for a 4-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Marion's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Mt. Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.

Mt. Vernon was able to grind out a solid win over Marion when the teams last played on April 8th, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
