Basketball Recap: Calumet Christian Takes a Loss

Calumet Christian has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 43-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the River Forest Ingots on Thursday. The Patriots were not able to make up for their loss to the Ingots from their previous meeting back in January of 2022.

Despite the defeat, Calumet Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Makenna Landkrohn almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Calla Ogden, who posted six points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Calumet Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards.they pulled down seven more offensive rebounds than River Forest's almost as impressive total of 12

River Forest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but D'Yanna Hurn led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Hurn is becoming a predictor of River Forest's success: when she posts at least eight boards the team is 10-5 (and 2-6 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Amy Arana, who scored three points along with five assists and five steals.

Calumet Christian's loss dropped their record down to 16-4. As for River Forest, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-11 record this season.

Calumet Christian has already played their next contest, a 64-50 defeat against Hammond Bishop Noll on the 31st. As for River Forest, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 54-26 loss against Hanover Central on the 7th.
