Basketball Recap: Lake Wales Piles Up the Points Against Freedom

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lake Wales had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They breezed past the Freedom Patriots to the tune of 80-13. The Highlanders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 23 points or more this season.

Destiny Witherspoon was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 25 points and 12 steals. Those 12 steals gave her a new career-high. Vanessa Squire was another key player, putting up nine points and five steals.

Lake Wales smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Lake Wales has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.3 points over those games. As for Freedom, their loss dropped their record down to 5-17.

Lake Wales has already played their next match, a 57-33 victory against Sebring on the 8th. Freedom does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
