Softball Game Preview: Plano Reapers vs. Richmond-Burton Rockets

The Plano Reapers will head out to face off against the Richmond-Burton Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Plano is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

Harvard hit Plano with a four-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Reapers lost 10-1 to the Hornets.

Plano saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lindsey Cocks, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Marengo typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Richmond-Burton proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Indians. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rockets.

Hailey Holtz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rebecca Lanz, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Lilly Kwapniewski was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Richmond-Burton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Plano, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8-1.

Plano suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Richmond-Burton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Reapers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
