Independence and St. Henry squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Independence had to settle for second. They fell 3-1 to the Redskins. The Blue Devils' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
While Independence had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18.
Independence's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madelyn Mudra, who had nine digs and one assist. Sofia Pichert also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
St. Henry got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Morgan Baumer out in front who had 20 digs and two aces. What's more, Baumer posted four assists, the most she's had since back in October. Another player making a difference was Olivia Gast, who had seven digs and four aces.
Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 20-7. As for St. Henry, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season.
Independence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Henry, they will square off against Newark Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
