Baseball Recap: Durant Takes a Loss

Durant blew Newsome out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Newsome got their revenge. Durant fell just short of Newsome by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Cougars couldn't push the score so high this time.

Durant got a good showing from Dylan Hotz, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hotz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Durant saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Brooks, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Durant's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Newsome, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-3.

Durant and Newsome should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Durant (ranked 128th) will meet Plant City (ranked 272nd) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Durant 3.6, Plant City 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Newsome will square off against Robinson at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday up 201 places (87 vs. 288).
