Preview: Wingate Bears vs. Zuni Thunderbirds
The Wingate Bears will head out on the road to square off against the Zuni Thunderbirds at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wingate is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Even though Wingate has not done well against Crownpoint recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Wingate snuck past Crownpoint with a 49-43 victory.
Meanwhile, Zuni's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They took a 80-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tohatchi. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (57), Zuni still had to take the loss.
Wingate's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-12. As for Zuni, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.
Wingate came up short against Zuni when the teams last played back in January, falling 46-33. Can Wingate avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
