Baseball Game Preview: Galena Bears vs. Walnut Grove Tigers

The Galena Bears will take on the Walnut Grove Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Galena's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Walnut Grove has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

On Thursday, Galena didn't have quite enough to beat Seymour and fell 8-7.

Jaxon Foster was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Cody Jones was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Galena's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Bryce Wall, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Wednesday. Walnut Grove came up short against Weaubleau, falling 9-2.

Walnut Grove now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Galena, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Everything went Galena's way against Walnut Grove in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Galena made off with a 29-4 victory. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
