Softball Game Preview: South Lake Eagles vs. Cornerstone Charter Academy Ducks

The South Lake Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Cornerstone Charter Academy Ducks at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South Lake will be strutting in after a victory while Cornerstone Charter Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

It was a Battle of the Birds when South Lake duked it out with Viera on Thursday. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Hawks 8-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

The team relied heavily on Marissa Weaver, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Alex Watson also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: South Lake lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more home runs.

Meanwhile, Cornerstone Charter Academy came up short against Foundation Academy on Tuesday and fell 10-5.

Cornerstone Charter Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Pynes, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another was Kenzie Boisvert, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

South Lake now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Cornerstone Charter Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-8 record this season.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. South Lake hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Cornerstone Charter Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

South Lake couldn't quite get it done against Cornerstone Charter Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
