Softball Game Preview: Millbrook Wildcats vs. Wakefield Wolverines

The Millbrook Wildcats will challenge the Wakefield Wolverines at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Millbrook's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five games.

Millbrook took a 15-run loss the last time they faced off against Rolesville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Millbrook sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 victory over Rolesville on Friday. 13 seems to be a good number for the Wildcats as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Nicole Drew and Brynn Herman did most of the damage at the plate: Drew scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Herman scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave Herman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Brisita, who went 2-for-5 with five RBI and two doubles.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Millbrook kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in seven consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Wakefield unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 7-1 to Wake Forest. The Wolverines were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the four games prior), but the Cougars' pitchers proved too tough.

Brianna Riehle was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Wakefield's defeat dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Millbrook, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Millbrook hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Wakefield struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Millbrook might still be hurting after the 18-1 loss they got from Wakefield when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Millbrook avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
