Volleyball Recap: Loudonville Redbirds vs. Kirtland Hornets
It was a good run, but Loudonville unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Kirtland Hornets by a score of 3-2.
Loudonville took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 28-26, 23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-12.
Sophie Shultz paced Loudonville's offense, picking up 17 kills. Shultz got some help from
Ella Vermilya and her 32 assists. Shultz was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.
Nina Alfieri was her usual excellent self, getting 51 digs and two aces for Kirtland. Alfieri has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more digs the last 14 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gabriela Veider, who had 12 digs and two aces.
Loudonville's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Kirtland, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6.
Loudonville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Kirtland, they will challenge Dalton at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Dalton will roll in looking for their 25th straight victory, something Kirtland surely won't give up without a fight.
