Softball Recap: Logan Takes Down Ranked Winfield

Logan faced Winfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Wildcats won by a run and slipped past the Generals 7-6. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 4-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Myleigh Adkins (North Georgia) was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Lena Setser was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Addison Richardson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Logan is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Winfield, they moved to 19-7 with that defeat, which also ended their nine-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Logan will square off against Midland Trail at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Winfield, they will face off against South Charleston at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
