Softball Preview: Union Local Jets vs. St. Clairsville Red Devils

The Union Local Jets are on the road again on Friday to play the St. Clairsville Red Devils at 12:00 p.m. St. Clairsville took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Union Local, who comes in off a win.

Last Wednesday, Union Local made easy work of Buckeye Trail and carried off an 11-5 victory.

Kylie Stidd made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Stidd has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than six innings every time she's pitched this season. Stidd was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a triple, two RBI, and a run.

In other batting news, Laken Vinskovich was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Alli Kellaway, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

While St. Clairsville couldn't quite beat Cambridge on Thursday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the seven-point defeat they were dealt on Monday. St. Clairsville fell just short of Cambridge by a score of 4-2. St. Clairsville has struggled against Cambridge recently, as their contest on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Union Local now has a winning record of 2-1. As for St. Clairsville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Union Local skirted past St. Clairsville 16-14 when the teams last played back in March of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Union Local since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
