Volleyball Recap: Monona Grove Takes a Loss

Monona Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McFarland Spartans. If the Silver Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to the Spartans when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

The final score came out to 25-16, 11-25, 25-14, 25-16.

Despite the loss, Monona Grove saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mikayla McQueeney had eight digs and five aces. Those five aces set a new season-high mark for McQueeney.

Monona Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 16-20. As for McFarland, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-20 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Monona Grove and Sun Prairie East will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for McFarland, they will square off against Monroe at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
