Football Preview: South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls vs. Avery County Vikings
The South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls have the luxury of staying home for another week and will welcome the Avery County Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Stanly is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 28.2 points per game this season.
Two weeks ago, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, South Stanly beat Union Academy 20-14.
South Stanly's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. Union Academy's QB won't forget Ethan Gaddy anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Carter Callicutt was another major factor on D, making 14 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Avery County hadn't done well against Mitchell recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Avery County managed a 25-21 victory over Mitchell. The win was some much needed relief for the Vikings as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Oak Markland was a one-man wrecking crew for Avery County as he picked up 182 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Markland's longest reception was for an incredible 74 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Liner, who threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns on only seven passes.
Avery County wouldn't let Mitchell keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Avery County can thank Cobe Townsend and Grayson Hoilman for forcing both of them. Avery County is 2-1 when Townsend posts one or more forced fumbles, but 0-6 otherwise.
South Stanly now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Avery County, their victory bumped their record up to 2-7.
