Monterey barely beat White County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Monterey Wildcats were the clear victor by a 13-3 margin over the White County Warriors on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their one-run performance the match before.
Haylee Garthwait made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Garthwait was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Anna Cooper was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those hits were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Bowman, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one triple.
Monterey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory got Monterey back to even at 2-2-1. As for White County, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Coming up, Monterey will head out to square off against Watertown at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Monterey's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Watertown's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for White County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Stone Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on March 18th. Stone Memorial will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something White County surely won't give up without a fight.
