Football Game Preview: Indian Springs Thunderbirds vs. Tonopah Muckers

Indian Springs hasn't had much luck against Tonopah recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Thunderbirds are taking a road trip to take on the Muckers at 6:00 p.m. Indian Springs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Indian Springs is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Sandy Valley, who was ranked eighth at the time (Indian Springs was ranked tenth). The Thunderbirds snuck past the Sidewinders with a 27-22 victory last Friday.

Indian Springs found their leader in sophomore Tobias Rhynard, who rushed for 62 yards and two scores, and also threw for 69 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Tonopah put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 72-14 win over Round Mountain. The Muckers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by 38 points or more this season.

Indian Springs better keep an eye on Dustin Otteson. He was instrumental in Tonopah's win, rushing for 374 yards and eight TDs while picking up 23.4 yards per carry. Those 374 rushing yards gave Otteson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adelaido Salgado, who rushed for 106 yards and one touchdown on only six carries.

Tonopah was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 556 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Indian Springs' record now sits at 4-5. As for Tonopah, their record is now 10-0.

Indian Springs was taken down by Tonopah 72-14 when the teams last played back in September. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Otteson, who rushed for 142 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries, and also threw for 94 yards and four TDs while completing 88.9% of his passes.
