Softball Recap: Lisle Starts Season with Victory Against Westmont

Lisle had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Westmont Sentinels with a sharp 14-4 win on Saturday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Sentinels recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

McKenna Riley made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jaya Claussen and Megan Bradley did most of the damage at the plate: Claussen scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Bradley went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Sophie Crescenzo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Lisle hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westmont struck out 12 times.

Westmont's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lisle will head out to square off against Chicago Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Westmont, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Plano at 4:30 p.m. on April 4.
