Baseball Recap: Hoffman Estates Wins Going Away Against Fenton

Hoffman Estates had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Fenton on Saturday. The Hawks blew past the Bison 14-5. The Hawks not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 5th (when they won 13-2).

Colin Karecki made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luis Tobella, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Bello, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Hoffman Estates always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Hoffman Estates' record now sits at 6-14. As for Fenton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season.

Hoffman Estates and Fenton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Hawks will face off against Barrington at 4:45 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (466 vs. 56). Meanwhile, Fenton (ranked 573rd) will meet Riverside-Brookfield (ranked 110th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
