Softball Recap: Alleghany Takes a Loss

Alleghany extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-17 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Elkin Buckin' Elks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Buckin' Elks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-10 back in March.

Ellie Crouse was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Ava Busic was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

As for Elkin, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since February 28th.

On Elkin's side, Lauren Norman was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Norman has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aiden Byrd, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Alleghany wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 13-3 defeat against Starmount on the 22nd. As for Elkin, they have also already played their next game, a 5-3 loss against Mount Airy on the 22nd.
