St. John came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Grand Valley Mustangs 14-4. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Fighting Herald also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2023.

Aaron Wychock made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, Dyln Newsome was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Anthony Severino was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

St. John was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in six consecutive contests.

St. John's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Grand Valley, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-2.

Coming up, St. John will welcome Harding at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Fighting Herald are facing the Skippers at the right time seeing as the Skippers are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Grand Valley, they will challenge Edgewood at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
