Football Recap: Delbarton Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Delbarton had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They lost 48-28 to the St. Edward Eagles on Saturday. The Green Wave were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-7.

Delbarton lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Matthew Tafuri, who rushed for 99 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 85 yards. Another player making a difference was Grant Van Raaphorst, who picked up 113 receiving yards and one TD.

A big part of St. Edward's victory came down to the chemistry between Jonny Evanchick and his top target Zach Hackleman. Evanchick threw for 116 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes while Hackleman picked up 114 receiving yards and three scores.

St. Edward has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Delbarton didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 29-0 loss against Malvern Prep on the 6th. As for St. Edward, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 63-27 win against Wayne on the 5th.
