League recap: Sunnyslope tops Cactus Shadows to extend winning streak

Sunnyslope added to the longest winning streak in II Section I this week by beating Cactus Shadows, 35-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

Sunnyslope was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting the Falcons. Damon Pieri's team came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.

Tony Miller was a force in the backfield as Camelback lost to Carl Hayden Community.

Gabe Losada threw for 255 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 12-32 with 0 interceptions.

Miller provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Spartans fell to the Falcons.

John Moser was the best wideout in the league this week as St. Mary's fell to La Joya Community. Moser tallied 6 receptions for 176 yards. Tino Vidales helped St. Mary's' passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 45 yards.

The Knights' Losada and Moser led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Losada has thrown for 1,876 yards this season, while Moser has 42 catches for 723 yards. Brandon Sellers from Fairfax leads the league in rushing with 944 yards.

Sellers of the the Stampede is only 56 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 105 carries Sellers has accumulated 944 yard this year.

Going into this week's contest against Camelback, St. Mary's' Losada needs 124 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.

The Fighting Lobos are currently in third, while the Vikings are in first.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when La Joya Community takes on Sunnyslope. Josh Mitchell's team has allowed 83 points this season, while the Vikings have given up 28. The Fighting Lobos allowed 13 points last week as they topped Todd Williamson's team.

Fairfax took down Copper Canyon 54-3 last week, the largest margin of any game. Joseph Dodd threw for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win.
