Softball Recap: Wharton Finds Home Field Redemption Against Strawberry Crest

There's no place like home for Wharton, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against the Strawberry Crest Chargers by a score of 5-1 on Monday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-5 back in March.

Eliza Connell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabriella Greco, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Adriana Cadicamo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Wharton has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Strawberry Crest and nudges their season record down to 4-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Wharton Wildcats take on Durant Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wharton's pitchers better be ready for this one: Durant has averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Strawberry Crest, they will square off against Bloomingdale at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bloomingdale will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Strawberry Crest surely won't give up without a fight.
