Baseball Game Preview: Stearns Minutemen vs. Central Red Devils

The Stearns Minutemen will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Central Red Devils at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Stearns will be strutting in after a win while Central will be coming in after a defeat.

On Wednesday, Stearns got the win against Penquis Valley by a conclusive 18-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Minutemen.

Owen Wilson made a big impact no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, four runs, and two stolen bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emerson Michaud, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Silas Lee was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Stearns always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Penquis Valley only posted an OBP of .286.

Orono hit Central with a seven-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Devils came up short against the Riots, falling 12-2. The Red Devils haven't had much luck with the Riots recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Stearns now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Central, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
