Baseball Recap: Shawnee Victorious

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Shawnee and Cherry Hill East, and Shawnee kept the tradition alive. The Renegades narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Cougars 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Renegades have posted against the Cougars since May 4, 2022.

Timmy Dougherty tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cole Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

Shawnee is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Cherry Hill East, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 10-11 record.

Shawnee and Cherry Hill East should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Renegades will take on Moorestown at 4:15 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (30 vs. 99). Meanwhile, Cherry Hill East (ranked 94th) will meet Bridgeton (ranked 368th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
