Softball Preview: Burgin Bulldogs vs. Washington County Commanders
Burgin is 0-6 against Washington County since April of 2016 but things could change on Monday. The Bulldogs will host the Commanders at 5:30 p.m. Burgin has given up an average of 16.5 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
In Saturday's Canine Competition, Burgin had to take the L. They came up short against Paris on Saturday, falling 15-5.
Meanwhile, Washington County had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged out Caverna 7-6.
Addi Abell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, Ariana Gonzalez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Washington County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Caverna only managed five.
Burgin's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Washington County, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Burgin suffered a grim 20-6 defeat to Washington County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
