Basketball Preview: Union Mine Diamondbacks vs. Galt Warriors
Union Mine has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Galt Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Mine has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 2,038 points over their last 27 games.
Union Mine can now show off 15 landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They blew past Bradshaw Christian 69-45. Given Union Mine's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while the The Pride are ranked 518th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Union Mine found their leader in underclassman Isaac Zmerzlikar, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 19 rebounds. Zmerzlikar is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Nate Sweet was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Galt's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their tenth straight loss. They were outmatched by Rosemont on the road and fell 84-30. Galt has struggled against the Wolverine recently, as their contest on Thursday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Union Mine's victory was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 25-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.3 points per game. As for Galt, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-20 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Union Mine against the Warriors in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 83-39 victory. With Union Mine ahead 51-20 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
