Basketball Recap: Fairmont's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to 16

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Fairmont walked away with it. They were the clear victor by a 56-35 margin over the Nash Central Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Golden Tornadoes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fairmont to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shaniah Smith, who posted nine points along with eight assists and seven steals. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyric McNair, who earned nine points in addition to eight boards and seven assists.

Smith wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Fairmont was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nash Central only eight assists.

Nash Central lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Addison Flowers, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds. Those ten points gave her a new career-high. Jayden Baggett was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.

The win (which was Fairmont's 16th in a row) raised their record to 24-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points over those games. As for Nash Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-9.

Fairmont wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-33 loss against Southeast Alamance on the 7th. Nash Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
