Baseball Recap: Decatur Takes a Loss

Decatur and Estacado squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Decatur had to settle for second. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Matadors. The Eagles were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Matadors' pitchers proved too tough.

Decatur got a good showing from Kalum Garner, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Garner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Decatur saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Raymundo Contreras, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Decatur's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 18-16-1. As for Estacado, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-16-1 record this season.

While Decatur had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
