Baseball Game Preview: Brush Beetdiggers vs. Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs

The Brush Beetdiggers will square off against the Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Brush beats Haxtun with five runs on Saturday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Beetdiggers walked away with a 5-1 victory over Weld Central on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Beetdiggers in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won four in a row.

The team relied heavily on Landon Mesch, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March of 2024. Trae Romero was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Wiggins typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Haxtun proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Fightin' Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Madden Larsen was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carter Lock, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Haxtun kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wiggins only managed one hit.

Haxtun has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Brush, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Brush has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Haxtun struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
