Preview: Kelliher/Northome Mustangs vs. Blackduck Drakes
The Kelliher/Northome Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Blackduck Drakes at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Kelliher/Northome's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
In what's become a running theme this season, Kelliher/Northome gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 103-42 victory over Red Lake. Kelliher/Northome's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Kelliher/Northome got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kate Thayer out in front who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Thayer is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Thayer, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Blackduck posted their biggest victory since December 18, 2023 on Monday. They blew past Red Lake County Central 73-50.
Kelliher/Northome's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Blackduck, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
Everything came up roses for Kelliher/Northome against Blackduck in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 86-38 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kelliher/Northome since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
