Softball Recap: Piscataway Vo-Tech Raiders vs. Dunellen Destroyers

Piscataway Vo-Tech had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-6 to make it six. They came up short against the Dunellen Destroyers, falling 20-11. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Destroyers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-5 back in April.

As for Dunellen, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The result was nothing new for Dunellen, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Dunellen's part, Kaitylee Garcia was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Garcia a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

In other batting news, Gaelle Velez was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with six stolen bases and four runs. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rose Ciccolella, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Piscataway Vo-Tech is set to square off against their familiar foe Mother Seton at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Dunellen will take on rival Calvary Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
