Basketball Recap: Willow Spring Wins Going Away Against South Garner

After losing to South Garner the last time they met, Willow Spring decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Willow Spring Storm strolled past the South Garner Titans with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 57-41. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Storm.

Willow Spring had a senior duo take command as Grant Overman dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards and Brady Williams went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. What's more, Overman also racked up eight blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brandon Brooks, who posted seven points.

Willow Spring smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Despite the defeat, South Garner saw an underclassman step up: freshman Omarion Liles made all 6 shots he took to post 13 points and seven rebounds. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for Liles. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Hardy, who had eight points in addition to ten rebounds and three steals.

Willow Spring is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for South Garner, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

Willow Spring will head out to challenge Cleveland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cleveland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Willow Spring likes a good challenge. As for South Garner, they will welcome Corinth Holders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Garner is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season.
