Basketball Recap: Martin Malual's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Calvary Baptist over Royal

If Calvary Baptist was riding high fresh off their 70-39 takedown of United Christian Academy on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars took a 50-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Royal Highlanders on Saturday. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Calvary Baptist lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Martin Malual, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nikolas Buenaventura, who went 5-for-8 en route to 11 points.

It was another big night for Lucas Markand, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds for Royal. What's more, Markand posted three steals, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaden Arteaga, who scored six points and three steals.

Calvary Baptist's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Royal, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
