Softball Recap: Buena Park Comes Up Short

Buena Park was the 7-2 winner over Troy when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Buena Park lost 7-1 to Troy on Wednesday. The contest marked the Coyotes' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Mia Gonzalez was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Gonzalez wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Calista Beltran, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

This is the second loss in a row for Buena Park and nudges their season record down to 5-6. As for Troy, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-8.

Coincidentally, Buena Park and Troy will both be playing Crean Lutheran the next time they take the field. Troy will head out to face Crean Lutheran at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, while Buena Park will head out to face them at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
