Softball Game Preview: Frankfort Hot Dogs vs. North Newton Spartans

The Frankfort Hot Dogs will take on the North Newton Spartans in a tournament on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Frankfort has struggled recently with 32 losses in a row, while North Newton will arrive with eight straight wins.

Frankfort fell victim to Tri-West Hendricks and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 23-0 to the Bruins.

North Newton came out on top against North White on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Spartans put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 8-1 victory. Considering the Spartans have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Sydney Rainford made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, Riley Higgins was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

North Newton's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Frankfort, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-14.
