Gloucester is a perfect 10-0 against Denbigh since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Gloucester will head out on the road to take on Denbigh at 4:30 p.m. Gloucester's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Denbigh's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Gloucester turned things around against Smithfield on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Packers 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Dukes have posted since May 31, 2024.
Gloucester got a great performance from Brayden Scott as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.
At the plate, Grayson Shield and Hank Hardaway did most of the damage at the plate: Shield scored a run and stole three bases, while Hardaway went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Jackson East also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Gloucester hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smithfield struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Denbigh). They put the hurt on Heritage with a sharp 19-1 victory on Thursday. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Hurricanes recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Liam Blazek was a standout: he scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Blazek is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Trevor Foote, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
Gloucester now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Denbigh, their record is now 4-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gloucester has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Denbigh struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gloucester took their victory against Denbigh when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 24-2. Does Gloucester have another victory up their sleeve, or will Denbigh turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
