Softball Game Preview: Forest Grove Vikings vs. Newberg Tigers

The Forest Grove Vikings will face off against the Newberg Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Forest Grove will be strutting in after a victory while Newberg will be coming in after a loss.

Forest Grove is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Oregon's top teams: McMinnville, who was ranked eighth at the time (Forest Grove was ranked 19th). The Vikings came out on top against the Grizzlies by a score of 12-7 on Wednesday. Surprisingly, this marked the Vikings' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Meanwhile, Newberg came up short against Glencoe on Wednesday, falling 22-3. The Tigers have struggled against the Crimson Tide recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Delainy Willard was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Forest Grove pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Newberg, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
