Preview: Bellville Brahmas vs. Wimberley Texans
The Bellville Brahmas will face off against the Wimberley Texans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep alive their perfect 14-game seasons.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Bellville had no problem doing just that on Friday. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 31-7 win. Fans of Bellville have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
DD Murray continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 154 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Murray really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run.
Bellville's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Cory Richardson was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up 2.5 sacks himself.
Meanwhile, Wimberley can now show off 12 landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. Everything went their way against Sinton as Wimberley made off with a 38-13 victory. Given Wimberley's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Sinton is ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Cody Stoever, who rushed for 234 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt. Stoever is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Noah Birdsong did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 149 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Bellville to 14-0 and Jasper to 9-5.
