Basketball Recap: Avery County Comes Up Short

Avery County won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were dealt a 77-46 loss at the hands of the Mountain Heritage Cougars. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 78-39 last Wednesday.

Avery County's loss came despite strong showings from Landon Liner and Hank Johnson. Liner went 6 for 14 en route to 15 points and five boards, while Johnson went 6 of 12 on his way to 16 points. Johnson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Oak Markland also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Avery County's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Mountain Heritage, they pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

When Avery County and Mountain Heritage next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Avery County will try to stop Madison's three-game winning streak when the meet at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Avery County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.5 points per game this season. Similarly, Mountain Heritage will take on Mitchell and their three-game winning streak at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
