Baseball Game Preview: Newton Falls Tigers vs. Southeast Pirates

The Newton Falls Tigers will square off against the Southeast Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Newton Falls is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Southeast on Wednesday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates.

Leland Vargo put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Vargo wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Huff, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Southeast now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Newton Falls, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.
