Basketball Game Preview: Winston County Yellowjackets vs. Brilliant Tigers

The Winston County Yellowjackets and the Brilliant Tigers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.

Winston County is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Cold Springs just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 64-42 to the Eagles. The loss put an end to the Yellowjackets' undefeated start to the season.

Despite the loss, Winston County had strong showings from Lynleigh Cobb, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards, and Jaylee Calloway, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 12 points and six rebounds. Cobb is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played.

Even though they lost, Winston County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 22 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Brilliant duked it out withHubbertville on Thursday. Brilliant secured a 50-46 W over Hubbertville.

Brilliant is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Winston County, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 11-1.

Everything came up roses for Winston County against Brilliant in their previous matchup back in January of 2017, as the team secured a 60-32 win. In that matchup, Winston County amassed a halftime lead of 34-14, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
