Volleyball Recap: West Elk Takes a Loss

West Elk was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Northeast Vikings. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Patriots of the 2-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, West Elk sadly wound up on the wrong side. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 22-25, 25-17.

Emily Mott paced West Elk's offense, picking up nine kills. Mott also shared the team's lead in assists with Elizabeth Woods: they picked up ten each. Mott also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Callie Cummings, racking up three apiece.

West Elk's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Northeast, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

West Elk didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 loss against Oswego on the 20th. As for Northeast, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 2-1 defeat against Galena on the 20th.
