Sallisaw is 2-8 against Poteau since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Black Diamonds will venture away from home to challenge the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Sallisaw is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
On Thursday, Sallisaw made easy work of Glenpool and carried off a 35-13 victory. Given the Black Diamonds' advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Warriors are ranked 142nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

A big part of Sallisaw's win came down to the chemistry between Kase Adams and his top target Jackson Harris. Adams rushed for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries while Harris rushed for 103 yards and three scores on only 12 carries. Those 138 rushing yards gave Adams a new career-high.
Sallisaw was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 271 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Sallisaw's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Poteau strolled past McLain Science & Tech with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 43-28. The victory continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won five in a row.
Sallisaw better keep an eye on Sam Tecla. He was instrumental in Poteau's win, throwing for 308 yards and three TDs while completing 78.9% of his passes, and also rushing for 49 yards. A healthy portion of Tecla's aerial production (100 yards to be exact) went to Logan Waymire.
Sallisaw's record is now 6-1. As for Poteau, their record now sits at an identical 6-1.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Adams and Tecla. Adams just won't slow down this season and has averaged 126.4 passing yards per game. Tecla has been a dominant force too and has thrown 14 touchdowns while averaging 163.3 passing yards per game.
Sallisaw was able to grind out a solid win over Poteau when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 14-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Black Diamonds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
