Baseball Recap: Hillsboro Eagles vs. Godley Wildcats
Hillsboro extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-17 in the process. They lost 16-3 to the Godley Wildcats. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Wildcats when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Hillsboro saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Creech, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
As for Godley, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 26-5-1. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
On Godley's side, Adam Pempsell was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pempsell has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Grayson Crane tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, Godley let Byron McClure and Ryder Papasan run wild. McClure got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Papasan got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs McClure has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tabor Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
While Hillsboro had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
