Softball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Van Vleck's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Van Vleck won against Hempstead last Friday with 20 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Leopards put the hurt on the Hitchcock Bulldogs with a sharp 20-1 win. Considering the Leopards have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Lakyn Matchett was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kylie Sazera was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Waller, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Van Vleck has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Hitchcock, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Van Vleck will face off against Brazos at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hitchcock, they will square off against East Bernard at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Brahmas will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
